Artwork

Island Spray offers art canvases and panels in various media, formats and styles. Here are a few examples of airbrush scenes from Menemsha, an island favorite fishing harbor and sunset spot.

These pieces are each 13″x19″ and they’re painted with airbrush on cotton-wrapped board. The frames are made of wood, and spray painted to echo the colors of dock pilings.

This next piece was commissioned by Cole Powers, of Powers Electric in Vineyard Haven. He wanted to capture a few important harbor-front buildings in one landscape canvas.

The De Sorcy Co. building (formerly a paint store) is now a warehouse for Powers Electric. Cole is also really involved with the VH Harbor sailing community, and the building on the right hand side of this piece is the historic Gannon & Benjamin boat building workshop. The middle structure is Cole’s house.

In line with the mural work that I do with Island Spray, I spray paint larger-scale pieces on wood panels. For a while I was doing this every Friday at Althea Freeman-Miller’s art studio, Althea Designs, on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven. Live Art Friday aka Freestyle Friday was always a highlight of my week.

Here’s Althea carving out a new block printing piece, while Vineyard Haven music wiz Andy Herr serenades us on the uke. The backdrop is a freshly-sprayed Typhoon Tuna piece of mine.

Here are some more photos from Freestyle Fridays at Althea Designs:

Live Art Fridays / Freestyle Fridays has been active on and off for years, depending on everyone’s schedule. The pieces in the gallery above are from 2021-2023.

The goal of this get-together was just to make stuff with friends, with an open invitation to the community to come by the studio and participate and / or observe the process. We always had a blast painting in the parking lot facing Beach Road, inside the studio, or out back on the harbor-front beach. Shellfish were both painted and eaten at Freestyle Fridays! And I even sold some paintings to folks who came by and checked out the action.

In the fall of 2024, island painter Isaac Hurwitz curated a group show at the historic Tashmoo Springs Pumping Station. This beautiful waterworks facility dates back to the 1880s, and is now an event space.

With a group of 20 or so other island makers, I showed various pieces old and new at the UFO Gallery Vineyard show.

I love creating new pieces for people’s homes, yards, businesses, or wherever else they choose to display artwork. If you have an idea for a commission, feel free to reach out by direct email:
